ArchivalResource

Samuel Gray justice of the peace records, 1754-1766.

Record of court cases heard by Justice of the Peace Gray of Windham, Connecticut. The majority of cases were for debt; however, he heard several cases of profane swearing, breaking the Sabbath, breach of peace, and one interesting case in which a prisoner and a mulatto broke out of the Windham jail. He noted in the margin beside some cases when the judgment was executed and the fines paid. Several marriage records can be found scattered throughout the volume. A handwritten index to the marriages is available in the collection folder in the archivist's office.
